Behind The Scenes: My Goals For July

If you’ve been pregnant you know what I’m talking about when I say the first-trimester exhaustion is real.

I was one of the lucky ones who didn’t deal with morning sickness but, boy, did I lose all my motivation. All I wanted to do was sit on the couch and eat saltines with cream cheese and pickles.

I learned I was pregnant in February. It was right after I started to enact my new year’s resolutions and get serious about achieving my 2021 goals. Of course, while I was ecstatic about being pregnant, I had to do some serious soul searching about my business goals.

While I was able to keep doing client work, I let all my dreams for what I want this business to become slide down to the bottom of the priority ladder.

It was necessary at the time.

Then, the second trimester hit. I was a new woman. (All my fellow pregnant momma’s, you know what I’m talking about).

I had a few breakthroughs with new clients that were encouraging, not to mention my husband’s total support.

Suffice to say, I was motivated to jump back into the fray.

So, what is this blog post about and why should you bother reading it?

I’ve been blogging for years, going as far back as the Tumblr days.


As crazy as it sounds I like sharing my thoughts on the world wide web. While the blogs I write for clients are scientific and educational, and most blogs on my own website are written with the goal to educate, I still enjoy sharing my thoughts online.

That’s why I’m starting a goal-setting series.

I love to set goals and I’m constantly scribbling ideas and plans for future goals. My hope is that this blog series will act as an extra layer of accountability.

It may even encourage you to get after your own goals and give you some ideas to implement in your own life and business.

If nothing else, I hope to look back on this in a few years and see how far I’ve come.

How To Set Goals

I’m constantly looking for the perfect system for goal setting and planning. My husband says I’m a micro-manager (and he still loves me, ain’t he just perfect!)...meanwhile, I blame my type A personality.

Either way, I’m still on the search for the perfect system. I’ve heard good things about the PowerSheets Goal Planners and The Simplified Planner but I have yet to take the plunge. Comment below or send me a message if you use either of these systems and what you think!

As of now, here’s how to set goals:

Measurable - always choose goals that you can measure and track.

Achievable - don’t set goals that are too big for your britches.

Timely - set a timeframe to achieve your goal.

There are a lot of other components of goal setting that we could get into. For example, some people like to use the SMART framework, but I think it’s important to keep things simple.

I’ve divided my goals for July into two different categories: Business Goals & Life Goals

Here they are….

Business Goals

  • End the month with 100 Facebook Page followers

  • Grow my Instagram page from 241 followers to 300 followers

  • Gain four new Pinterest followers and grow monthly pageviews to 2,500

  • Send 12 pitches for guest blogs, podcasts, or other collaborations.

  • Send four email newsletters

  • Post four blogs

  • Collect three client testimonials

  • Continue to serve my current clients well (this is not exactly measurable but I try to achieve it by being timely, going above and beyond my listed services and providing new ideas)

Life Goals

  • Provide a clean home to visitors by keeping up with housework

  • Maintain relationships by visiting family in Florida and going to the Moody’s Wedding

  • Prepare for baby by spending one hour a day reading or researching birth/sleep training/etc.

  • Pursue my marriage by going on three dates with my husband

  • Serve the community by volunteering for outreach opportunities with the church - sports Saturdays, meals for neighbors, Sunday nursery, etc.

  • Read one non-fiction book and three fiction books this month
